Candle Hints & Advice

Candles give us light, set the mood, and make any room look inviting. At Luminous Creations we want you to be able to enjoy the ambiance created by our candles and have created this page to provide you with as much information as possible on the most effective and safe use of our products.

Honey Bee Stay in view of a burning candle.
Honey Bee Keep away from children and pets.
Honey Bee Trim the wick to ¼ inch in length before lighting and relighting a candle.
Honey Bee Always place pillar candles on an appropriate holder, and on a noncombustible, heat resistant surface.
Honey Bee Be careful not to place a burning candle near anything that can catch on fire such as curtains, dried materials and baskets.
Honey Bee Remove wick trimmings and other foreign material from the wax pool after the flame is extinguished. Tweezers works well for this.
Honey Bee Candles should be burned for 2 to 3 hours at a time.
Honey Bee Keep the wick centered and be sure it is not close to the edge of the container.
Honey Bee Candles should be kept out of drafts to prevent uneven burning and reduce dripping.
Honey Bee Candles exposed to sunlight may fade.
Honey Bee Do not move a burning candle.
Honey Bee Colored and fragranced candles can damage furnishings; therefore, protect surfaces.
Honey Bee Discontinue burning a candle when ½ inch of wax remains of a pillar or container candle.
Honey Bee Always remove any packaging or labels from candles before lighting.
Honey Bee Use a snuffer to safely extinguish candles.
Honey Bee Wax adhesives and candle sharpeners will ensure a perfect fit for any candle in any holder.
Honey Bee  If you burn more than one candle at the same time, make sure that there is a distance of at least 4 inches between them to prevent candles from melting.
Honey Bee For safety reasons, keep candles upright. This will ensure the candle burns cleanly and reduces dripping.
Honey Bee Never take a tealight out of its metal container.
Honey Bee Do not leave uncovered candles outdoors overnight as excess moisture may cause hot wax to splatter.
Honey Bee Store candles in a cool, dry place away from light to prevent fading.

Especially for Votives:
Honey Bee Never burn a freestanding votive. Votive candles are designed to liquefy as they burn and must always be used in an appropriate sized container.
Honey Bee Keep votive wicks centered and trimmed to ¼" while burning to prevent breaking the glass holder.
Honey Bee Always remove metal tabs or clips from the bottom of the container before adding another candle.
Honey Bee Keep the pool of wax free of any foreign material that will cause a fire hazard.
Honey Bee Always place the votive holder on a heat resistant surface to protect the surface of your furniture.
Honey Bee Make sure to extinguish the votive when the wax level gets down to the last ¼" in the container.
